RACISM? HMMM LETS TALK ABOUT THAT

Did you know that race comes in all shape color and form?



Racism is the discrimination against a race that believes that one race is superior to another race. Racism is a moral issue; it is a political issue that is going on in America. There is a lot of evidence that the moral issue then lead to social effects. Racism was not supposed to be prolonged but it still plays a major part in the U.S till this day. Martin Luther King had a dream and this dream was to see blacks and whites get along but this dream really didn’t come true.

In college and career class we are learning about the Isms. One major Ism that we are focusing on is racism because this is still continuing within everyday society. We watched a video that was addressing racism. I learned that (Kevin Powell) did a doll test to see which doll the kids would pick most of them picked a white doll. Black kids grow up to understand that black is an ugly color and white is more superior. We are raised in America to have a slave mentality and most of us do.

During college and career we read a short story called recitatif. This was a very tricky story. We had to read about children who lived in a shelter but the tricky part is we wanted to figure out what race they were. Back in the days, black people were characterized as having nappy hair, big lips and being IGNORANT. White people were described as soft hair, very pretty and INTELLIGENT, because they had supposedly bigger and smart brains and blacks didn’t. In the book the characters were described under black and whites stereotypes. My guess was that Twyla was white and Roberta was black at first. My classmate and I believed that Twyla was the black one and Roberta was the white one. At the end of the story it became very difficult to know but my guess may be correct.

In class we began to watch documentaries; one caught my attention, it was called the race power of an illusion. This was about the genetics of blacks and whites. Many people shared their experiences of being black or white person. A main experience that caught my attention was a story about a black man. People would sometimes go to a black man and ask are you a basketball or football coach and he would actually be a college professor. Black people are really upgrading and doing what they have to do but there are many black people ruining it for the rest of us. I believe if white people can make it then us blacks can do it also because Barrack Obama made it. If GOD created us as humans with brains just a different color we are still the same as the other.

In conclusion, this world can be better only if we all get along and make it better. Even though racism is wrong it is still practiced in many countries. We are all human beings and we should love one another. It is proven that blacks resemble night and white resembles day, night is dangerous and day is supposedly a safe thing. Either way that is just an opinion. There is no need for discrimination because we all know that a person is neither good nor bad depending on the color of their skin.

Racism Is Everywhere!!!!!!

Racism is something that surrounds us all. Some of us have witnessed it or perhaps been racist towards one another. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, or what type of job you work in, you are bound to have at least witnessed racism once in your lifetime because racism is everywhere. Racism refers to the belief that human capacities can be determined based on their race.

Racism has existed for centuries, and has prolonged until today. Although slavery was abolished black people are still frequently treated as second class citizens and still have an image that meant that they were not as superior as white people. Racism is everywhere both in musical industries, for example the song by Erykah Badu titled “Soldier”, is addressing the struggles that happen because of a racist society.

This song basically addresses that struggles young black people go through to become stronger in life. Not only black people but it also addresses the struggle of whites in a line that says“To my boys in Iraqi it’s not time to kill”. This is an everyday war scene between the United States and Iraq. Everyone during that time era has died in body but has persevered in their heart and souls.

We watched a movie called Race, the power of an Illusion; in this movie some athletes go through racism especially African Americans. In sports such as Track and Field. Blacks are said to have more genetics advancement to enable them to run faster or have more endurance during races. My point of view is that is true but not because they are blacks but because they worked hard during their practice and did what they have to do to get even better at any given event.

In conclusion, the term Racism would never come to end without racial thinking or Social Identity in the society. Individuals should believe in themselves to prove that they can overcome racism in any ways. Today our president is black, Barack Obama changed history and history is normally said to repeat itself but it didn’t because a black president is in the White House today. Only your dignity would make you a survivor.

What I learned

This week in my college and career class “thinking outside the box” we’ve been talking about racism. Basically the topic was about how racism is still in America today. We looked at documentaries that also talked about racism. My teacher Ms. Deloney read a Langston Hughes poem that I felt was about racism and then she had us listen to an Erykah Badu song. After that we compared the two both were about racism but in different ways. For example Langston Hughes was talking about racism back in the days and Erykah Badu was talking about racism nowadays.
Another thing were talking about was the word “Nigger”. We watched a small video that explained how a lot of rappers use the word “Nigger”. Then we had a discussion that my teacher called the fish bowl. It was about if my classmates and I felt that Nigga differed from Nigger. Even though Nigga came from Nigger, young kids/teens today have different meanings for the two words. Sometimes depending on where you live, using the word Nigga is like saying what’s up to your friends. Also rappers use it the same way so technically we get it from the media.
In class we also read some of a story called “Rectatif” by Toni Morrison. It was about two girls names Twyla and Roberta and they were in a group home. They had these older girls that used to tease the lady that worked in the kitchen who was Maggie. The author didn’t tell us which race the girls were but he was sending us different signs that kind of gave us thoughts but not really. I say this because according to stereotypes both girls didn’t fit any of the requirements. No matter how much of the story we read we couldn’t figure out who was what race. I think my teacher was trying to show us that by using stereotypes we would never be able to figure out who a person really is.

Racism is when a person believes his race to other races that he is superior and has the right to rule others. For example a Japanese person came to America and tried to help Japanese people become citizens of the United States. He learned how to speak English and learned how to read and write. They did not let the Japanese become the citizens of the United States. But they European were able to become citizens of the United States. Racism stated years ago and it is a problem till today.
In class we listened to songs and one of them was “The Revolution Will Not Be
Televised” spoke about how (black people) will not be on television where will it be? In class we read a short story called Recitatif. The story was about two kids going to foster care. They told you
that they were called salt and pepper but you didn’t know who was white and who was black. The whole book you had to guess who was who. You had to tell who was who with the Stereotypes. Stereotypes are based prejudices towards individuals and groups of people
according to their race.
In the short documentary we watched in class called “A girl like me” by Kiri Davis. There was a test with two dolls a white doll and a black doll. They ask the children questions such as which is the good doll, which is a ugly doll, which is the cute doll.
All the children pick the black doll for all the negative questions. They picked the black doll for the negative question because they grow up with the Stereotypes.

This week in “Thinking outside the Box”, we studied Racism. Racism is the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races. We watched documentaries, and talk shows based on this issue. This issue affects many African Americans in the United States. However, Racism is not only towards blacks, but Whites, Jews, Arabs (etc).
While watching these documentaries, I’ve learned that Racism was happening in many other parts of the world. Racism, from the white and black perspective, they judge us based on our physical appearance, rather than our mental capacity. I learned that during the Great Migration, Asians, Blacks, Jews, and Mexicans were giving unsafe and harsh working conditioned jobs.
As a young black female in America, I face many challenges. However, it may become hard for me to get certain jobs, no matter how high my education is or how many degrees I receive, all because of the color of my skin and racism. Personally speaking, you should judge someone on the content of their character not their skim complexion. I accept all types of race, however I don’t accept people who do not want anything positive for themselves. Racism is just another negative situation many people face. During the early 1940’s and 1950’s many schools were segregated all because of racism.
I also learned about a racial term that many white slave owners and white people used to call Blacks during slavery and segregation “Nigger”. I would get offended if any white person would call me nigger because that word means, a worthless black person in a white society, and it is disrespectful. Today we use the term “Nigga” which come from the root word “Nigger”. Only a black person can call another black person “Nigga”, however for many of us that word is just a shorter way of saying homie, son, or what’s up friend.

Racism

I learned a little more about racism this week. From our discussion in class to the documentaries that we watched and the songs we listened to. The doll test was a great discussion but it was to me very upsetting. I felt very mad that the African American children have a serious inferiority complex, Also that the white dolls were superior to the black dolls. Although I didn’t like when the Caucasian man said to the African American men “if we walked into the apple store you would be the one followed not me”. I felt really bad because I know it’s true. I liked when Professor Michael Eric Dyson talked about “soul murder”. He meant that we are here physically but consciously we aren’t ourselves mentally. We have had some great discussions about saggin, and the “n” word, and also about the movie poster of the movie “fred clause” with Vince Vaughn and Ludacris. The media plays a big role in reinforcing the stereotypes that feeds into racism. There have been the some positive songs but my favorite song was erykah badu’s “solider”. It basically talks about black peoples struggle over the years. This idea has helped me with the idea of creating my ism. Also from the documentary I liked when it said racisms is a human creation. Which means that man made racism. They also said that people from different culture like Chinese, African Americans, and white people have more in common than we think. Which I think is true because history says that the first people were in Africa then migrated to the parts of the world. I finally realize that race is a more serious issue than I thought and is an issue that shouldn’t be ignored because if ignored it doesn’t make our situation or us moving into toward the future any better.

Rapeism-means when adults sexually abuse young children. Rapeism is one of the reasons that children are scarde to walk the streets late at night. Sex offenders can be inprisioned for life. This is some thing people shouldnt do because it affects the child and his/her families. Sex offenders are mainly crack heads or people that have no home, no life. This should be a charge were the acused person should be facing up to 25 to life.

My ISM is called freedomofspeechism. My definition of freedomofspeechism is us blacks,whites,Latinos,and Asians deserve to give our opinions because we are all equal. Do we really have freedom of speech? We really don't. Us blacks are actually still treated as "Niggers", if we really had freedom of speech we would actually be able to say something without being judged or sent to jail. We don't have the courage to speak out loud because we do not want to be the center of attention little do we know we are already the center of attention. Just because black people are doing so many wrong things white people are doing the same and that doesn't mean we cant have freedom of speech because of the way we act. Its always what the white man says or think, and its the black peoples duty to prove them wrong like Obama did. freedom of speech should be limited not because of the color of our skin but because we all have rights and slavery is done. Every citizen should be able have the right to voice their opinion without fear. WE NEED THE REAL!!!!...... FREEDOM OF SPEECH

moneyism is not judging people by their class status. there are many peopel that get judged for the amount of money they have. with money rich pepole can go a better college than poor people. when you go to a good college it is easy for you to get a good job but if you dont or go to a not so good college it is hard to get a job. when you go to a nice store and when you want to by something that cost a lot and you dont look rich somtimes people dont take you serious.

My ism is voiceism. My ism that gives a voice toward everybody who is discriminated against for being who they are. I just believe that there are alot of people who are discriminated against but nobody is adressing the real issues and by nobody adressing the thats why were not as unified as we should be. Especially African American people . The saying that I have made up was "A mouth that never moves that is never heard is afraid to speak. Cause when talking is never heard." So what that you dont have as much money as every other person in your school. So what you have to take a ramp instead of the stairs. So what that your a black man or woman in america and you want to date a white man or woman. So what that you want to be with the same sex. The way i see it is that people dicriminate because they dont want to deal with their own problems so or they are to bored woth their own lives that they have to waiste precious time to sit and talk about other people. Who are they to judge people but yet they say only god can judge me but yet you are judging other people. Your no perfect creation yourself or the last time I checked your name wasnt God. So remember the next time your judging somebody remember that they are probably judging you to.
